Stranger Compliment

Today, I was told by a complete stranger that I have a great phone voice.

I swallowed my laughter until the person hung up, then cackled until my stomach hurt. This is, perhaps, the most unusual, ironic compliment I have ever received.

  1. A stranger on the phone once asked me if I was from Canada. I was oddly flattered, because I love Canada. But then she said, "Yeah, you have this sort of....Canadian *twinge* to your voice." I then realized it wasn't really a compliment after all.

Not sure why this compliment was ironic for you....? I can imagine but am probably overthinking it. :)

I was also asked out once by a guy who called my home phone as a wrong number. He redialed to call me back a second time, telling me he could hear a "spark of something special" (or somesuch) in my voice.

  2. Laura, you crack me up! Stories like this make me realize that life certainly isn't all serious :p

I found my phone interaction to be ironic because it takes me at least 10 minutes to get up the courage to call someone I don't know (say, grad school admissions offices, or the YMCA..) because I get all jittery and I hate talking on the phone, and I stutter more than is ever truly necessary. But yesterday, apparently, I did something right haha.
